Haida Gwaii

Haida Gwaii – Queen Charlotte Islands

The area formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands is located just off the west coast of British Columbia, Canada, only 100 miles below south east Alaska. The islands now known as Haida Gwaii, or Islands of the People, the archipelago is home to the Haida and Gwaii Haanas National Park, co-managed by First Nations. The archipelago’s rugged isolation, unique natural endowments and ancient Haida village sites led to the park being named the best national park in North America in 2005, according to gohaidagwaii.ca, and preserved totems and longhouse remains.

Haida Gwaii is made up of ancient temperate rainforests, quaint villages, secluded inlets, and beaches that stretch as far as the eye can see. A place so remote that roads cannot bring you here, yet the warmest of welcomes await once you arrive.

Unparalleled Scenic Beauty and World-Class Salmon

Composed of over 150 islands and solitary inlets, they create a 150 mile long Archipelago about 90 miles off the mainland, essentially forcing every salmon in the Pacific Northwest to pass by on their annual migration.

Nearly all major runs of salmon from multiple river systems on the west coast of Vancouver Island must pass through the area during their migration, and consequently pass into the fishing grounds. This results in wave upon wave of salmon feeding from the rich waters of the Cartwright Sound.

Haida Gwaii offers unparalleled scenic beauty, and unsurpassed, world-class salmon and combination fishing.
