GETTING HERE
Your Journey to Haida Gwaii...
THE JOURNEY BEGINS
A Little Preparation Goes a Long Way
Getting here is part of the adventure. From flights and luggage to what to pack for a day on the water, we’ve gathered the details you need to plan your journey with confidence. We’ll help you prepare for your arrival in Sandspit so you can focus on the fishing, the scenery, and the experience ahead.
WHAT TO PACK
A Little Preparation Goes a Long Way
-
Identification: Bring a valid passport if traveling to Canada internationally. Domestic travelers should bring appropriate government-issued identification.
-
Personal medications: Bring enough medication for your entire stay. Pharmacy access in Sandspit is limited, so plan ahead.
-
Clothing for the coast: Temperatures typically range from 50–70°F. Pack layers such as jeans, T-shirts, sweatshirts, light wool socks, a warm hat, and a lightweight waterproof, windproof jacket.
-
Personal toiletries: Pack toiletries in accordance with current airline carry-on and checked-baggage regulations.
-
Sun protection: Sunglasses and sunscreen are useful even on overcast days.
-
Camera: Bring a camera or phone to capture the scenery and memories.
-
Motion sickness remedies: If you're prone to seasickness, consider discussing preventative options with your healthcare provider before traveling. Although salmon fishing often takes place in protected waters, ocean conditions vary, especially during bottom fishing.
Good to Know:
Washers and dryers are available at the lodge, so you can pack lighter.

FLIGHTS & BAGGAGE
Plan Ahead for the Final Leg.
The original travel information lists the following Air Canada allowances and fees. Airline policies and fares can change, so verify the current allowances and charges before departure.
-
Carry-on luggage: The original guidance recommends two carry-on items, subject to applicable size and weight restrictions.
-
Checked luggage: The original guidance lists one checked item up to 50 pounds.
-
Additional bags and fish boxes: Previously listed fees were $50 CAD for each of the first two bags or boxes and $100 CAD for the third and each additional item.
Because aircraft serving Sandspit have limited space, checked luggage may be delayed or bumped when flights are full. Pack essential items, medications, and anything you need immediately in your carry-on when permitted.
